Adviser Profile

Mr Inderjit Singh has served as an elected Member of Parliament for Ang Mo Kio GRC since December 1996, and is currently the Adviser to Kebun Baru GROs.

Mr Singh graduated with a Bachelor in Engineering (Honours) from NUS (Nanyang Technological Institute) in 1985, and obtained a Master in Business Administration (MBA) from University of Strathclyde in 1991. 

After 13 years with Texas Instrument, he founded the United Test and Assembly Centre (UTAC) in 1998, Tri Star Electronics Pte Ltd and subsequently founded Infiniti Solutions Pte Ltd in 2001. Mr Singh is the Deputy Chairman of the Action Community for Entrepreneurship (ACE), Deputy Chairman of the National Youth Achievement Award (NYAA) and Chairman of the Enterprise Committee at NTU where he is also a board member.  

Mr Singh is a “dynamic trailblazer” – a leader who is passionate about what he does. While being a serial entrepreneur, he has also been actively involved in helping transform the entrepreneurship landscape and helping Small and Medium Enterprises in Singapore.  

Today, as the Deputy Government Whip in Parliament since 2002, his dynamic style remains; earning him respect from many quarters with his logical and concise arguments in parliament.

His interests include community service, writing and reading.

Know Your Estate

KEBUN BARU division houses 10,000 residential units, 210 commercial units and 200 hawker stalls. The housing profile stands at 82% public and 18% private.

Its public housing estates located in the northeastern part of Ang Mo Kio were built between 1975 and1982, while its private housing estates comprise of established names such as Sembawang Hills and Mayflower and newer names such as Wellington Garden and Shangri-La Park.  

Kebun Baru rose from very humble beginnings in the early days to become a well-established division within the Ang Mo Kio GRC. Facilities are constantly added in order to provide a conducive and convenient living environment for residents. Today, serving residents of the division and beyond are 3 food centres, 3 secondary schools and 2 primary schools, on top of several places of worship, student and family care centres and a neighbourhood police post. Improvement works such as the various Lift Upgrading Projects and Barrier-Free Access projects by the Town Council are also high on the agenda. 

Under the National Environment Agency’s Hawker Centres Upgrading Programme (HUP), hawker center at Blocks 160 and 162 Ang Mo Kio Avenue 4 reopened on 1 January 2009. The adjoining market was also upgraded to serve the needs of residents in the area and beyond. It marks good news for the residents as the new amenity is cleaner, safer, cooler and pleasant to the eyes. The division also boasts of a gym and wellness spa to cater to the health conscious.  

There are 6 Residents’ Committees (RCs) and 4 Neighbourhood Committees in the division to serve the residents of Kebun Baru.

Sports events such as the Kebun Baru Annual 5km Road Run and Kebun Baru Family & Sports Day 2008 are organised by the Kebun Baru GROs to promote healthy living among the Kebun Baru residents. Through communal events, residents are brought together to encourage and inspire one another to adopt a sporty lifestyle. Fun educational activities often form the core of these events, so as to share the healthy living message in a light-hearted manner.
