Adviser Profile

Mr Wee Siew Kim has been an elected Member of Parliament (MP) for the Ang Mo Kio GRC since October 2001. Currently, he is Adviser to Jalan Kayu GROs.  

Mr Wee was schooled in Raffles Institution, after which he graduated from the Imperial College of Science & Technology, University of London with a Bachelor of Science (Aeronautical Engineering) First Class Honours. Starting out as an engineer under Singapore Technologies Aerospace Ltd, Mr Wee then furthered his studies under a company scholarship at the Graduate School of Business, Stanford University and obtained a Master in Business Administration.  

Today, he is the CEO for NIPSEA Group Of Companies. Concurrently, he is the President of Defence Business of ST Engineering. 

Mr Wee also chairs the Estate Improvement Committee, in addition to the Business Liaison Committee; constantly looking into areas of improvement for the estate with the assistance of grassroots leaders and the Town Council. 

His personal interests include reading, jogging and golf.

Know Your Estate

JALAN KAYU is the largest division in Ang Mo Kio GRC and Yio Chu Kang SMC in terms of area. It includes parts of Ang Mo Kio Ave 10, Buangkok, Serangoon North Avenues 3 & 4 as well as large areas of private estates further to the northeastern region. It houses close to 10,000 residential units and 90 commercial units. The division is also home to one of the most famous streets in Singapore - Jalan Kayu! 

As part of residents’ efforts to uncover and share the rich heritage of this established division, the Jalan Kayu Heritage Trail had been developed by Pei Hwa Secondary School with this meaningful objective in mind. Supported by Central Singapore CDC, Jalan Kayu Citizens’ Consultative Committee (CCC) and Sengkang West CCC, visitors on the Trail are able to take in lush greenery, relive the old kampong days, visit quaint historical bungalows and the old airport as well as sample food made famous during the early days.  

Besides keeping its history alive, the division also has its sights set on the present and the future. Improvement works such as the various Lift Upgrading Projects and Barrier-Free Access projects by the Town Council are high on the agenda, in order to keep enhancing the living environment for our residents.

To make Jalan Kayu a safer and more conducive place to live in, the Jalan Kayu Rangers Community Safety and Security Project was launched on 23 December 2007. It is a joint initiative of the Jalan Kayu CCC, Sengkang Neighbourhood Police Centre and the foreign dormitories management team. 40 foreign rangers were roped in to conduct weekly patrols with the neighbourhood police and residents. The rangers’ contribution is significant as they will be able to assist in effective communication with their peers on the Singapore legislation and culture. In turn, more interaction with the foreign workers is being fostered and it allows them to be better integrated into our society. 

7 Residents’ Committees (RCs) and one Neighbourhood Committee (NC) in the division ensure that the views and aspirations of residents are well represented.
